11th Spen Valley Scouts - A Brief History

October 1948 – Group Founded

June 1949 – First Annual Summer Camp, Held at Whitby (14 Boys Attended)

November 1949 – Trust Deed Signed Initiating the formal formation of the group

1955 – I boy attended world jamboree in Canada

1956 - 2 Boys attend Jamboree at Sutton Park

1957 – Scout Troop Attend The Jubilee Jamboree (100th Anniversary of Baden Powell’s Birth & 50th Anniversary Of Scouting)

March 1961 – Fund Established to Build new Headquarters

1964 – Old Headquarters built by the parents from two pre-fabricated houses monies raised for the project £919

May 1965 – New Headquarters Formally Opened

1974 – The Group Acquired it’s own Bus for £300

1975 – 1 boy and 1 leader went to the world Jamboree in Norway

1982 – Venture Scout Unit Opened to Girls

Sept 1986 – Beaver Colony Formed

1990 – Group Bus Disposed of

Aug 1995 1 boy attended world Jamboree in Holland

March 2006 - Work Starts on New Purpose Built HQ - Main Contractor Cleckheaton Construction.

Oct 2006 - New Building External work Completed

Feb 2007 - New Headquarters Officially Opened By District President Philip Malpress

Aug 2007 - 12 Scouts, 3 Scout Leaders & 2 Cub Leaders Visit the 2007 Jamboree at Highlands park Essex
